Sea Monsters- Seriously scary.

Exhibitions are a great way to explore and learn about various topics, from art and history to science and technology. For people with disabilities, exhibitions can provide a unique and enriching experience that goes beyond just learning and entertainment. Sam and I recently visited the Yarrila Arts Museum in the new cultural and civic space in Coffs Harbour- Yarrila Place, we were seriously impressed with the space and the exhibition. Sea Monsters offers an exciting experience that combines real fossils from millions of years ago and giant replicas, including a 13-meter long Elasmosaurus and a 9-meter Prognathdon.

One of the most significant benefits of visiting exhibitions for people with disabilities is the availability of accessible spaces. Many exhibitions are designed keeping in mind the needs of people with disabilities, such as wheelchair ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms. This ensures that everyone can enjoy the exhibition without any physical barriers.

Exhibitions often incorporate different sensory elements, such as visual displays, audio recordings, and interactive activities. For people with disabilities, these can be an excellent way to stimulate their senses and engage with the exhibition. For example, a visually impaired person can use touch to explore a sculpture, while a person with hearing impairment can read captions or use headphones for audio descriptions.

Sam and I had fun playing with the interactive aspects of this exhibition and we even got to design a couple of sea monsters, we created the Samandlouiseasaurus, Sam picked the colours and he spotted it up on the screen.

Exhibitions offer a vast range of learning opportunities for people with disabilities. Whether it's learning about a specific topic or gaining insight into different cultures and perspectives, exhibitions can provide a hands-on and immersive experience. This can be especially beneficial for people with learning disabilities, as they can engage with the information in a more interactive and visual manner.

Sam is not overly conversational so being in this space gave us a lot to discuss, even is it was mostly Sam answering my questions, he was looking and thinking and talking about something completely out of his usual life, trying to imagine how big these creatures were and what they looked like.

Visiting exhibitions can also be a great opportunity for people with disabilities to interact with others and socialize. It can be a chance for them to meet and engage with people who share similar interests and passions. Exhibitions can also serve as a platform for people with disabilities to connect with others and form new friendships and support networks.

For people with disabilities, visiting exhibitions can also promote independence. With accessible spaces and activities, they can navigate the exhibition on their own terms and explore at their own pace. This can boost their confidence and sense of self-sufficiency, which can have a positive impact on their overall well-being.

The Sea Monsters exhibition is fun so dive into the secret lives of these fascinating creatures with interactive displays and immersive experiences. Not for the faint-hearted, Sea Monsters will ignite the imagination of all ages and abilities.
